Popular small SUVS

Small SUVs are popular with drivers because they offer comfort and spaciousness, while maintaining nimble performance and good fuel efficiency. However, some drivers have wondered how safe a small SUV like the Chevy Equinox can be.

Crash tests and safety features

U.S. News and World Report looked at evaluations performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to determine how well cars like the Chevy Equinox performed in crash tests. They also looked at the smart safety technologies included to help drivers avoid accidents in the first place.

Equinox safety scores

The Equinox had an overall safety score of 9.7 out of 10 and an overall score of 8.1 out of 10, with top marks in NHTSA’s occupant protection category and good performance in roll resistance. The Equinox got high scores in the IIHS crash tests and a superior rating for automatic emergency braking. Other driver safety features that come standard on all Chevy vehicles include lane departure warning, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, auto-dimming headlights, and rear-seat alert. The Teen Driver Package is also standard. This helps parents teach new drivers to use cars responsibly.
