Gather your Tools You’ll need gloves, jumper cables, a flashlight (if it’s nighttime), and another car or rechargeable jumper pack that can provide the juice. Prepare the Vehicles Position the cars so that the front ends are almost touching. Then, turn off the engines and open the hoods. Attach the Cables This is the most crucial step, so pay attention. Connect the cables in the following order: 1. Red clamp to positive terminal of dead battery 2. Red clamp to positive terminal of working battery 3. Black clamp to negative terminal of working battery 4. Black clamp to unpainted metal surface under the hood of the car with the dead battery (NOT the battery itself!)
